Maths ( Vitruvian Man )

What/Who is the Vitruvian man?
-The Vitruvian Man is a drawing made by the Italian polymath Leonardo da Vinci in about 1490. It is accompanied by notes based on the work of the Roman architect Vitruvius.

Why is the Vitruvian Man important?
-Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, drawn in pen ink, illustrates one of Vitruvius' observations. The Vitruvian Man, a late 15th-century drawing, is a prime example of such work. Intended to explore the idea of proportion, the piece is part work of art and part mathematical diagram, conveying the old master's belief that everything connects to everything else.

Q

Question- Does our body have an ideal proportion in our class

P

Participants-(Sample)-  Our participants will be the population of all year 11 boys in our maths class, and we will be taking a sample out of the population to measure

V

Variables-Height and Armspan- measuring in M

R

Relationship- Our relationship is that we measure our height and arm span correctly so it is the same measurements.

S

Step by Step-

-Ask the person to take their shoes off

-Tell the student to stand straight against the wall

-Make sure that they are standing straight and not on their tippy-toes

-Using a tape measure, measure their height starting from their feet to the top of their head

-Using a book or a ruler put it on top of the head so when the tape measure is at the head you know where to record the data from

-Record the measurement onto a data table

-Measure 15 students and check what their height is.

A

Avoid Mistakes-

- Taking your shoes off when measuring

-Standing up straight

-No tippy-toes

C

Condition-

-

R

Repeat-

-If the measurements are not right or you think it is not right repeat them again and measure them correctly

Perfect Body Proportion

Analysis-
T-Trend
D-Direction
S-Strength
U-Unusuals/Outliers

T-Trend: It is a linear scatter graph.
D-Direction: It is a positive linear graph
S-Strength: It is a moderate linear graph
U-Unusual: There is 1 student that is out of line with everyone else which is unusual.

Conclusion: The answer to our question (Does our body have the perfect body proportion) is yes, 99% of the class has a perfect body, and 1% of the class is out of line which is unusual. The data that I have captured is a positive linear moderate scatter graph of the class.

  1. Matthew, you did an excellent job.
You've really explained what Vitruvian man is and who he is. I like how you included a table that explains what QPVR and SCCR are.
